In place of our 5:00 pm service, we will offer an Evensong to mark the first Sunday in Lent. The choir will lead the congregation in worship in addition to performing Vierne’s dramatic setting of the Kyrie and a haunting Hebraic setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by William Gatens.
Choral evensong is a musical setting for a traditional evening prayer service. This service derives from the historic Benedictine office of vespers and celebrates the setting of the sun, enabling the whole of Scripture to be read seriatim through the year.
