The purpose of the liturgical calendar is to draw us out of the pace and rhythm of our own, busy lives and draw us deeper into the life and mission of Christ and His body, the Church. The season of Lent is one of penitence to prepare us all for the chief Feast of the Christian year. By observing and committing to intentional spiritual discipline, we celebrate and enter into the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The three primary spiritual disciplines practiced during lent are prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. These disciplines are described by Jesus in Matthew 6:1-19.

During Lent, consider the following:

• Observe a Lenten fast, sacrificially abstaining from a habit or usual food or activity

• Commit to a particular prayer practice for forty days, deepening your connection to God (download the Daily Office Family Prayers)

• Find an avenue for almsgiving and charity, serving your fellow neighbor in love

• Download and read the Lenten Devotional produced by St. Peter’s

Holy Week

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday. We will gather outside on the North Lawn for the Liturgy of the Palms and then process into the Cathedral. All who are able to join the procession are encouraged to participate! Our Choristers and Youth Choir will also be joining the Cathedral Choir to sing at the morning services.

Confession will be available during Holy Week from 5-7pm Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please contact Ellen@StPetersFL.com to schedule a time with one of our priests to participate in Confession.

Following the Maundy Thursday liturgy, until Morning Prayer on Good Friday, the Cathedral will be open for those who wish to come, pray, and “keep watch with Christ”. We encourage everyone to come for at least one hour but are asking for at least four people to sign up each hour. A sign-up poster is located in the Narthex.
