“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel’.” (Mark 1:14-15). When we read these two verses carefully and meditate on them deeply it will inevitably lead us to ask, what is the Gospel? Most of us are familiar with the heart of the Gospel summed up in John 3;16, but in these verses from Mark, Jesus is speaking of the Gospel before his death and resurrection. Is this the same Gospel? Through a study of several different aspects of the Gospel, we will arrive at a fuller understanding of the Gospel as a whole, one in which we see that it concerns God’s relationship with mankind from eternity, from before creation.
